Welcome to the 2nd Annual Dark Carnival Film Festival Screenplay Competition. We are excited to include a competition for screenplay writers who enjoy writing what we love to watch - HORROR. The writers start it all so we want to be part of discovering new talent.

But we weren't satisfied doing just your average screenplay competition - oh my, no. Maybe it's just the carnival performer in our blood (after all, we've eaten a lot of carnies) but we needed to do something different.

This is why, the winner of our BEST SHORT SCREENPLAY competition will have their script produced as a short film to premiere at the 2011 Dark Carnival Film Festival!

The film will be produced by Clockwerk Pictures, a new production/distribution company that pools the talents of a variety of indie horror veterans. THIS IS A FIRST FOR ANY INDIE HORROR FILM FEST, SO DON'T MISS THIS CHANCE!

Length (no more than 20 pages)
Winner will have their screenplay produced by Clockwerk Pictures in association with Dark Carnival Productions. In Addition:

* The film will tour with Dark Carnival to horror festivals and other venues throughout the midwest.
* The film will receive a non-exclusive distribution deal through Dark Carnival
* The film will premiere at the 2011 Dark Carnival Film Festival.

For your protection, it is recommended (but not required) that your script be registered through the Writer's Guild of America (WGA). You can register your script at www.wga.org (West division) or www.wgaeast.org (East division).

Screenplays will be evaluated according to the Literary Management Industry criteria for evaluation: Premise, Characters, Structure, Formatting, Dialogue, Conflict, Writing Ability, Originality, and Grammar/Spelling. Winners will be notified about 2 weeks prior to the 2010 Dark Carnival Film Fest.

Additional Info About the Short Screenplay Competition:
In addition to the above judging criteria, we will be looking at the feasability of each script within the budget we have allotted for the project. The budget will depend on the overall participation in the competition. Writers are advised to avoid expensive effects scenes that might put their screenplay outside the scope of the budget - for instance, stay away from car crashes, explosions, settings that involve blocking off 23 city blocks of traffic, extensive CGI landscapes, etc.
